Midlothian Journal 22-9-1916
Only last week we recorded in these columns that Thomas Wilkinson, son of Mr and Mrs Wilkinson, Bridge Street, a member of the Australian Contingent had received a commission. On Wednesday, however, the sad news reached the parents that their son had been killed in action. The deceased, who was about 25 years of age, before emigrating to Australia, was employed in Valleyfield Mills. He was a member of the local Dramatic Club, and it will be remembered he took the role of 'Marks' in 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. Much sympathy is felt for the parents who have another son in the Royal Scots. (Midlothian Roll of Honour 1914 - 1918)
