KILLED IN ACTION.
Mr and Mrs J. N. Laurie, of Rawdon Vale, received the sad news on Monday last of the death on August 31st, of their son, Private Albert K.
Laurie, M.M. This young soldier had a splendid military record of three years service, during which time he was thrice wounded. He was awarded the military medal for his enterprise, with a companion, in capturing a German outpost, the occupants of which were engaged in directing the
fire of the enemy guns on the Australian trenches. The two lads took the place of the Germans at the telephone and the companion being conversant with the German language, directed the enemy battery fire on their own trenches, occasioning considerable damage. Residents of Dungog and surrounding districts will regret to learn the above news. Albert was well known in Dungog, where he was a student of the late Durham College. He was a noted horseman and a cricketer, and was a popular young man in every way. When the call came he quickly responded, and did good service for his King and country. We extend our deepest sympathy to the soldier's parents and
sincerely regret the loss of a brave soldier and a good comrade.
