LATE SAP. E. WALLACE
Mrs. Saint, off Kirkcaldy, whose husband is serving with the A-I.F., has recently been notified of the death of her brother Sap. E. Wallace, who was a son of Mr. H. Wallace, builder and contractor, of Hexham, England. The deceased left Australia with the 2nd Reinforcements to the 10th Battalion on February 1, 1915, and saw 21 weeks of heavy fighting on the Gallipoli Peninsula. After the Anzacs were withdrawn from that historic battlefield he was sent to the western front, where he died of wounds on September 19.
Prior to enlisting he was a member of the North Adelaide British Football team, and his popularity in sporting circles followed him into the broader and nobler sphere. Sap. Wallace came of a patriotic family. He is the second son "who has given his life for his country, and another is still fighting in France.
