On Saturday evening last Mr and Mrs Harry Diamond, Montgomery Street, Irvine received official intimation that their son,. Pte. John Diamond, Australian Force, had died of wounds on 11th August. Pte. Diamond was a native of Irvine, and was educated in Loudon St. School. He was for several years on the clerical staff of Messrs. Walkers Chemical Works, Irvine, and for some time held the post of secretary to Irvine Victoria Football Club. He was also a well known member of Irvine Municipal Golf Course, and was a member of the local battery of Territorial Artillery. About four years ago he emigrated to Sydney, Australia and after the outbreak of war joined the Australian Forces. He was 28 years of age and was unmarried.
