Third row, far left, is James Simpson who enlisted in the 16th Battalion in June 1915. 2705 Private (Pte) Simpson embarked with the 8th Reinforcement from Fremantle on board HMAT (A68) Anchises on 2 September 1915. He was killed in action on the Somme on 7 August 1916, aged 25. Second row, far left, is Charles Dumbar Monteath, a butcher, of Fremantle, Qld; formerly of Dunbarton, Scotland. 3579 Pte Monteath enlisted in October 1915. He embarked with the 28th Battalion 8th Reinforcements, from Fremantle on board HMAT Borda (A30) on 17 January 1916. He was transferred to the 51st Battalion and served on the Western Front. On 30 March 1918 he died of wounds received in France, aged 30. Middle row, 4th from right, is Alexander Marr who enlisted in October 1915. 28654 Gunner Marr, 10th Field Artillery Brigade, returned to Australia on 1 June 1919. Middle row, 5th from right, is probably Robert Brodie Dewar who enlisted in February 1916. 25977 Driver Dewar, 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column, returned to Australia in December 1918. Front row, far left, is Charles Braidwood who enlisted in October 1915. 409 Pte Braidwood, 11th Battalion, was promoted to Sergeant and returned to Australia in October 1918. Front row, third from left, is Francis Andrew Lyon, a salesman, of Cottesloe Beach , WA; formerly of Strathaven, Scotland. 7570 Pte Lyon enlisted in May 1916 and embarked with the 11th Battalion 25th Reinforcements from Fremantle on board HMAT Borda (A30) on 29 June 1917. He served on the Western Front and died in France of pneumonia on 29 June 1918, aged 33. Front row, far right, Roger McKinnon who enlisted on 6 March 1916. 6701 Pte McKinnon, 11th Battalion, returned to Australia in 1919.
