Honoured Australian War Memorial Panel 115 Studio portrait of 1128 Private (Pte) (later Sergeant) Herbert Wilson Gray, 29th Battalion, of Melbourne Vic, originally from North Walsham, England; he is standing with his younger brother Frank. Formerly a carpenter, Pte Gray enlisted on 1 July 1915, and as a member of D Company, he embarked from Melbourne, Vic, aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 10 November 1915. He served on the Western Front whre he was wounded in action on 9 August 1918. He died of his wounds on 10 August 1918, aged 28.
