Mr and Mrs Borthwick, Lingerwood Farm, have been informed that their second son, Robert, reported wounded and missing on August 4, 1916, is now officially presumed to have been killed in action on that date. Private Borthwick enlisted at Adelaide, in the Australian Infantry, early in the war. Previous to his departure for Australia five years ago, he was in the employment of Mr Scott at Oxgangs,Colinton, where his family then resided. A younger brother is also on service with the Australian Imperial Forces. (Midlothian Roll of Honour 1914-1918)

Official word has been received by Mrs Lockhart, Campend, that her son, Pte J.T. Lockhart, of the Australian Imperial Forces, has fallen in action. Pte Lockhart, who emigrated to Australia nearly seven years ago, answered the call to arms shortly after the outbreak of the war, and had been over two years in France when he met his death. He leaves a widow and child, who reside in New South Wales. The deceased was the only surviving son of the late Mr John Lockhart, 8 Dean Park, Newtongrange. (Midlothian Roll of Honour 1914-1918)
