OUR SOLDIER LADS ABROAD
PRIVATE GEORGE GIBSON FALLS.
The saddening effects of the war contiuue to come home to us. On Saturday last word came through that Private George Frederick Gibson, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Gibson, of Coleraine, had been killed in action on the 10th inst. The deceased was born at Macduff, in Banffshire, Scotland, and came to this country about 6½ years ago with his parents and brother,-the family having been in Coleraine for the past four years or more. In this place the young soldier was acting lieutenant in connection with the cadets, and assisted in other ways in helpful work. He was an officer in the local division of the Sons of Temperance, and his courteous demeanor made him a favorite with all who knew him. Nearly a year ago he took the first steps to make his services available for the Empire and on the 22nd December sailed for the antipodes. On May 26th Inst he
went to France, and from then till his death had been on active duty. The news of his death was followed by the public tribute of half-masted
flags.
