McRAE.-On November 9, 1921, at Repatriation Hospital, Fremantle, Sergeant D. McRae, M.M., of the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery, and Siege Brigade A.IF., aged 37 years. A good and faithful comrade.
The West Australian (Perth) 12-11-1921
One year and nine months ago Sergeant Duncan McRae, M.M., of the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery, met with an accident while walking in his sleep at the Fremantle Barracks, falling from the balcony to the concrete steps below, a distance of 30 feet. He broke both wrists and sustained a fracture of the spine. Since then he had been an inmate of the Base Hospital, and his death occurred on November 9. Yesterday the deceased was buried in the Fremantle Cemetery with full military honours, the body being carried to its resting place upon a gun carriage, and practically every unit of the garrison forces attended. The Rev. W. Turton officiated at the graveside, and, at the conclusion of the ceremony, the last salute
was fired, and the bugles sounded the "Last Post." Deceased served with distinction during the late war for four and a half years, and it was for gallantry in the field that he earned the Military Medal. The flag at the Town Hall was flown at half-mast out of respect to the deceased.
