ATHERTONIAN KILLED IN FRANCE
Mr. Smith of 7 Stanley-st. has been officially informed that his son Pte. Harry Owen Smith, of the Australian Imperial Force has been killed in action in France. Deceased was a native of Atherton and lived in the town previous to his emigration to Australia six years ago, being employed as a gardener by Mr. M.F. Burrows, J.P. of Woodlands. Soon after the outbreak of war, Mr. Smith enlisted at Brisbane, Queensland, was sent to the Dardanelles to take part in the fighting there, and three months ago he went to France, where he met his death in a few weeks time. A brother fought in the Dardanelles campaign and was wounded in the arm, and is now amongst the disabled at Heaton Park.
