Private Arnold Needham, younger son of Mrs. E. A. Needham, of Victoria-road, Woollahra, has been killed in action. He was born in Oldham, Lancashire, 19 years ago, and came out here with his mother six years ago. At the time of enlisting he was with Mr. W. D. Smart, of Hermidale.

A Clergate correspondent writes:--
Quite a gloom was cast over the neighbourhood when the sad news came through that Pte. Arnold Needham had been killed in action in
France. The late Pte. Needham was the youngest son of Mrs. H. E. Needham, of Sydney, and only brother of Mr. Len Needham, our popular stationmaster. Previous to enlisting he was in the employ of Mr. W. Smart, of Walladah station, Hermindale, where his services will be greatly missed. Although only a youth of 18 he was anxious to do his bit for the Empire. To make the blow harder to bear Mr Len Needham had just been married, and had journeyed to Sydney to spend the honeymoon, and on arrival there he received the sad news. To the sorrowing mother and brother we extend our deepest sympathy.
