A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Fremantle aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 2 November 1914. He saw action at Gallipoli, Turkey. Due to Illness, he was transferred to the School of Instruction for Officers and NCOs in Egypt. On 18 February 1916, aged 22, he was mortally wounded in a bombing accident at the school and died in the Military Hospital, Heliopolis, Egypt.
