Alvah a parish on the NE border of Banffshire. It has no village, but lies from 2 to 7½ miles S of its post-town Banff.

Born: Alvah, Banffshire, Scotland Enlisted: 1-9-1917, Portland, Victoria Occupation prior to Enlistment: Cook 21st Battalion Australian Infantry Departed Australia from Sydney, N.S.W. 21-3-1918 Killed in Action: 5-10-1918, France aged 55years Son of William and May BAXTER. Enlisted at 16 in the Black Watch (42nd Royal Highlanders) and served 21.5 years. He fought in Egypt in 1882 under General Wolseley, and in the Nile Expeditionary Force in 1884-85, for which he received the Egyptian Medal with 5 Clasps and the Kedive Star, and in the South African War in which he gained 3 medals including the DCM.
